Horseback riding

There are numerous horse ranches in Sardinia, some of which are also attached to hotels and campsites.
Horse keeping and equestrian sports have a long history in Sardinia and are still very popular. Some of the festivals on the island are traditional equestrian festivals with corresponding competitions.
Horse riders are also not uncommon in the streets of many villages.
Many agriturismo operators also have horses and offer riding lessons and rides in the area.

On some ranches you can also book a complete riding holiday. If you only want to ride for a few hours, you are sure to find a riding centre (centro ippico or centro equestre) near your accommodation that has interesting offers for you.
A basic knowledge of Italian is very advantageous, as only a few providers speak English.

Of course, long rides inland and along the beaches are particularly exciting.
During the tourist season, however, the beach is avoided.

The organisers of “escursioni” – whose stands can be found in many holiday resorts during the season – often have riding activities on their schedule.

Riding course for children

Many riding stables are specially adapted for children

Because many Sardinians start riding at an early age, almost all horse ranches offer special courses for children.
If you are travelling to Sardinia with children, ask about such offers.
It will certainly be a wonderful and unforgettable experience for your little ones.
Even if they have no previous knowledge, it is no problem to take part in such a course or even just to ride for an hour at the farm.
Our children had never been sitting on a horse before, but they were immediately enthusiastic and had no difficulties whatsoever in dealing with the animals.
The riding instructors’ guidance of the children were very sensitive and age-appropriate.
