Agriturismo

This Italian form of holidays in the countryside is becoming more and more popular and the offers in Sardinia are increasing.
Agriturismo is usually run by farmers who offer accommodation and catering either on or near their farm. Sometimes they are just nice little family businesses that do a little farming on the side and thus secure an additional income.
If you want to get to know the country and its people, this is the best way to do it.

Overnight stays cost between 30 and 70 € per person, depending on the season and the room facilities. You can find a selection of accommodation providers on Booking.com.

Agriturismo – Holidays in the countryside

The farms are usually quiet, far away from the tourist centres, often in the midst of dreamlike landscapes and are extremely family-friendly. Children are in good hands here.
Many landlords also offer activities such as mountain biking, horseback riding or hiking. In addition, you always have a contact person who can give you tips for excursions and who knows the area very well.

There are also providers where you can pitch your tent or camper van on the site for a small fee. In the interior, this is a good alternative because of the lack of campsites.
Agriturismo can mostly be booked with half board only, in some cases only with breakfast.
This has its advantages, because after getting up or after an eventful day, you don’t have to take care of the food yourself. At the same time, the prices remain far below what you would pay in a hotel.
The cuisine is really authentic. The Sardinian specialities are mostly home-made and often the whole family eats together.

As the farms are often very far away from the next village, a private vehicle is absolutely necessary. The nearest beach is usually a few kilometres away.
A knowledge of Italian is also very advantageous, as very few providers speak foreign languages. With providers who advertise with a foreign-language contact person, you should inquire whether this person will also be present during your stay.

If you would like to get to know the typical Sardinian cuisine, you can also come for lunch or dinner without an overnight stay if you book in advance.
