Camping

I have dedicated an extra page to campervans.

campsite

Typical campsite

There are now about 90 campsites in Sardinia. Almost all of them are by the sea, inland the offer is very sparse. The largest selection is on the north and east coasts.

You can find a selection of campsites on Booking.com.

The offers often differ considerably in price and facilities.
For example, not all camping sites allow you to park your car next to your campsite. Shopping facilities are usually (but not always) available. Often there is also a bar or restaurant.

The sanitary facilities are also equipped differently. Showers are everywhere, either included in the price or on the basis of a coin-system. The toilets are mostly squat toilets. Washing machines are available at some campsites.
Sometimes a caravan or small bungalow can be rented on site.

campsite price list

Campsite prices in August

Almost all campsites open in mid-May and close at the end of September. Very few are open all year round and then often only if there is demand.
Shops and restaurants are often closed during the low season.
In the high season of July/August you should definitely book early, because then the pitches are full to the last square metre. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio is not always quite real during this time, although there are strict penalties here on the part of the authorities.
The pricing is quite confusing. Sometimes the car costs extra, sometimes the pitch for the tent is included in the price for a person, sometimes not. So you should take your time to compare everything.

Although the days are often very hot in summer, it can get very cold in the tent at night. Therefore, take warm clothing and a sleeping bag with you.

Wild camping

Wild camping

Wild camping under pine trees

Wild camping used to be very popular in Sardinia. In the 1980s, assumed that alarming proportions that the authorities began to enforce the already existing ban.
One-off overnight stays away from campsites, beaches or holiday settlements are often still tolerated.
However, one should not rely on this, because this regulation is handled differently from region to region. In the interior of Sardinia, there are fewer problems with this, which is probably mainly due to the fact that most campers stay on the coast anyway.
You will have the fewest problems in the low season, when almost all official campsites are closed anyway.
Then you can also ask a policeman or forester for a tip.
Open fires are strictly forbidden!
You should also keep in mind that there are a lot of free-roaming pigs, goats and dogs, especially in the interior of the country, which can be quite a nuisance.

In the meantime, there are more and more signs on the edges of the pine forests that specifically prohibit camping.
All nature reserves and national parks are also affected by a general ban. Anyone caught here faces severe fines.
