Train
Travelling by train is probably not an option for most tourists. Yet train travel in Italy is extremely cheap and the route network is very well developed.
Unfortunately, the train is not exactly one of the fastest means of transport. A journey from Frankfurt to Livorno takes about 16 hours, from Munich to Genoa 12 hours.
However, if you like to travel by train and book a place in a sleeper in good time, you will get to the ferry port relatively stress-free.
The best connections from the train station to the port are in Genoa and Livorno.
On Sardinia itself, the train is of very little importance. You will have to rely on other means of transport.
Travelling by train is recommended for all those who want to travel Sardinia with their own bicycle.
