Bus

by bus across Sardinia

The ARST buses run all over the island

Buses are the most important means of public transport in Sardinia. The bus network is generally well developed – almost every mountain village, no matter how small, is served and the buses are generally very punctual.

The timetables are primarily tailored to the needs of the locals.
Travelling around Sardinia by bus alone can be very time-consuming, as you may have to wait several hours when changing buses. Especially from more remote places, you will not necessarily get further on the same day, because they are only served 1 or 2 times a day.
For such trips you should take into account extra overnight stays.
Outside the high season, many connections in the tourist regions aren’t continued any further.

Publicly posted timetables at the stops (fermata) are rather rare. If necessary, ask at the nearest bar.
You can also buy your biglietto here; tickets are only sold by the driver on a few buses.
In the meantime, the timetables are also available online.

If you add up all the bus companies and private operators, there are over 70 bus companies on the road in Sardinia. However, most of the smaller providers only operate during the tourist season and only regionally.
The best thing to do is to find out about existing connections locally.

The ARST (Azienda Regionale Sarda Trasporti) company is the leading company concerning bus connections. It offers special tourist tickets (biglietti turistici) for the period June-September.
The tickets are valid for 7, 14, 21 or 28 days and allow unlimited travel on ARST buses during this period.
Tourist tickets are sold in the main ARST sales offices in the larger cities.

The coaches (pullman) connecting the larger towns do not stop in all towns along the route, depending on the timetable. It is best to ask the driver before departure.
